Mama Bear Mentor: Lori Edwards

November 14, 2025

Our ministry, Mama Bear Care, empowers mamas to embrace their Mama Bear role, equipping them to advocate for their special babies with fierce love and tender care. Another aspect of this mission, is embracing the mama bears who have been mama bears with a prenatal diagnosis, fought hard and loved hard, and now want to serve other mama bears. This new role is our ‘Mama Bear Mentor’ position, and we are so happy to have three women joining us who want to pour back into our Mama Bear Care community.

We will share about all three Mama Bear Mentors over the next few blog posts, but today we are sharing about a mama whose story we just covered in our last blog post. Lori and Philip were featured in November, as Lori shared with us the story of her pregnancy and birth with Philip who had Trisomy 13. We appreciate Lori Edwards’s willingness to share her story to encourage others, and her willingness to take on the new role of Mama Bear Mentor.

Our interview included below focuses on each team member’s life, family, and motivation for being a part of Mama Bear Care, as well as a few fun facts about their lives.

Lori, will you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am 46 at time of [sharing] this. I’ve been walking with Jesus and growing in grace since 2006 when I was 27. In 2010, my heart was convicted to homeschool our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. God has carried us all the way through till today!

Tell us more about your family?

I am wife of 19 years to my devoted husband, Robbie. I’m mom to 12: Chandler (27), Logan (23), Elijah (18), Benjamin (16), Anna, (14), Jonathan (13), Caleb (11), Micah (9), Sarah (8), Lydia (6), Heaven Baby (early miscarriage), and Philip who had Trisomy 13 and lived with us earthside for 65 days.

What is something funny that no one would guess about you?

I have a hard time choosing favorites! I like LOTS of things, but no favorites. I don’t have a favorite color, a favorite animal, a favorite food, or movie, or song…etc.  However…

What is your favorite drink?

…my favorite drink is definitely coffee, LOL!

What is your favorite board game?

I like Ticket to Ride and Catan.

What is your top 3 favorite podcasts/books/musical artists/movies (you choose)?

•Podcast: The Elisabeth Elliot Podcast

•Book: “Hope is the First Dose” by Dr. Lee Warren

•Musical Artist: Sons of Korah (Psalm singers)

•Movie: Martin Luther (2003)

How long have you been associated with Mama Bear Care?

I first came to the Diagnosis to Delivery Facebook group in 2022 after learning of Philip’s Trisomy 13 diagnosis where I learned of sweet Beverly and precious Verity.

Why did you join Mama Bear Care’s mission?

I remember how much I NEEDED to be able to talk to and hear from other mamas who had been in my same shoes, and I wanted to be that mama for others when they needed someone who could relate and understand what they’re going through.

What is the most important thing you have done with Mama Bear Care?

Intercessory Prayer. Carrying mamas and babies to the throne room of grace in Jesus name.
