Mama Bear Mentor: Raquel Massey
November 19, 2025
Our Mama Bear Care team is growing! While our mission is always to empower mamas to embrace their Mama Bear role, equipping them to advocate for their special babies with fierce love and tender care, we are excited to partner with our veteran mama bears who have fought hard and loved hard who are going to come on board to help other new mamas with a prenatal diagnosis. Our new role, Mama Bear Mentor, will be a way for these amazing ladies to pour back into our Mama Bear Care community.
We have shared about two of our mama bears joining us, but today, we are sharing about Raquel Massey who is raising little Jolene Miracle Rose, who has Trisomy 18. We are so glad to have a medical mama on board as one of our Mama Bear Mentors! Raquel has such a heart for mama bears two have received a diagnosis and for those who are also raising their babies who have a diagnosis. We welcome Raquel into our new Mama Bear Mentor role, and appreciate her willingness to share Jolene Miracle Rose’s story and use her experience to encourage other mama bears.

Our interview included below focuses on each team member’s life, family, and motivation for being a part of Mama Bear Care, as well as a few fun facts about their lives.

Raquel, will you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a wife, a homeschooling mama, and a medical mom to my beautiful daughter, Jolene Miracle Rose, who has Trisomy 18. I was born in El Salvador and now live in Sparta, TN on our little Miracle Rose Farmhouse, where we raise chickens, crochet, freeze-dry food, and try to live simply and self-sufficiently.
I’m passionate about encouraging moms, especially those walking through the heavy and emotional journey of a Trisomy diagnosis. I’ve lived it myself, and I want other families to feel seen, supported, and never alone.
Tell us more about your family?
I’m married to my husband Aubrey, and we have three children:
– Romeo, my oldest, who is in college and wrestles
– Micah, my sweet and curious six-year-old
– And Jolene Miracle Rose, our Trisomy 18 fighter who has taught us more about faith, strength, and resilience than anything else.
Our home is full of love, farm animals, and lots of homemade living.
What is something funny that no one would guess about you?
I can run a whole homestead, butcher chickens, can food, crochet like crazy — and somehow still lose my scissors 10 times a day.
Also, my guineas lay their eggs in a tree stump like they pay rent there. 😂
What is your favorite drink?
Happy Coffee — my new obsession since it launched! And if not that, a hot cup of coffee on my porch while watching my chickens.
What is your favorite board game?
Sequence or Clue — anything I can enjoy with my family.
What is your top 3 favorite podcasts/books/musical artists/movies?
- Mama Bear Apologetics podcast
- The Chosen
- Lauren Daigle’s music (carried me through NICU days)
How long have you been associated with Mama Bear Care?
Since 2022, shortly after Jolene’s diagnosis.
Why did you join Mama Bear Care’s mission?
Because I remember how overwhelming and lonely those early diagnosis days were. I never want another mama to feel like she’s walking through that alone. Mama Bear Care supported me during some of the hardest moments of my life, and now it’s my honor to do the same for other families with compassion, honesty, and hope.
What is the most important thing you have done with Mama Bear Care?
Supporting newly diagnosed families — listening, encouraging, praying with them, and helping them feel seen in those first scary days. When a mama says, “Thank you… I don’t feel alone anymore,” that is everything.

Thank you, Raquel, for sharing about your life, your family, and your passion for Mama Bear Care! Also, thank you for joining for being such an essential part of Mama Bear Care!
